Summary:We carried out clinical studies on cefpirome (CPR), a new cephalosporin in respiratory tract infections and obtained the following results. Nine patients (six with pneumonia and one each with bronchopneumonia, diffuse panbronchiolitis and chronic bronchitis) were treated with 1.0 or 2.0 g doses of CPR twice a day by i.v. drip infusion. The clinical response to CPR was excellent in 1, good in 5, poor in 2 and unknown in 1 patient. No side effects were observed. Laboratory findings revealed mild eosinophilia in one case, but this abnormality quickly disappeared. From our results, we consider that CPR would be useful for the treatment of respiratory tract infections.
