Summary:Patients with urinary tract infections or urogenital infections, were treated for 5 days with imipenem/cilastatin sodium (MK-0787/MK-0791) in a daily dose of 500mg/500mg or 1000mg/1000 mg by intravenous drip infusion. 1) Overall clinical efficacy was excellent in 5 and good in 1 out of 6 patients with uncomplicated urinary tract infections, with an efficacy rate of 100%. Efficacy in 19 patients with complicated urinary tract infections was excellent in 7 patients, good in 8 and poor in 4, with an efficacy rate of 79%. The response in 2 patients with acute prostatitis was excellent, and the efficacy rate was 100%. 2) In terms of bacteriological effects, 31 isolated (91%) were eradicated and 3 (9%) persisted. 3) Adverse effects were observed in 3 patients ; diarrhea in 1, diarrhea and abdominal pain in 1 and elevation of S-GOT and S-GPT in 1.
