Summary:An attempt to evaluate the skin safety of four moisturizing cosmetic products and their three ingredients, total seven materials, was made in 30 normal adult female volunteers. Scarifications 20minutes' patch test for contact urticarial reactions, scarifications 48hours' patch test and photopatch test for irritant reactions as well as photourticarial and phototoxic reactions, and diagnostic patch test two weeks later for contact sensitivity were performed. No contact urticarial reaction was seen in any of seven materials. One of the test material, concentrate revealed a moderate skin irritation index, 16.7 with scarifications 48hours' patch test, but 1.7 with ordinary prophetic patch test. The other three products, skin lotion, milky lotion and moisturizing cream were judged to be safe products about skin irritation. No allergic response was found in diagnostic patch test which was carried out two weeks later. It was evaluated, thus, the whole four cosmetic products for moisturizing skin were safe products, which may call hypoirritant and hypoallergenic products.
