More Information
Summary:We investigated 108 patients who admitted to National Minami-Kyushu Hospital for respiratory infection between August 1996 and July 1997. Streptococcus pneumoniae was the most frequent pathogen followed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Moraxella catarrhalis. About 30% of Streptococcus pneumoniae showed the resistance to Ampicillin. We could detect the pathogen by gram staining in about 70% of the patients, and these patients improved in a shorter term and more economical than the other patients. Moraxella catarrhalis was the most frequent pathogen in patients with home oxygen therapy. Gram negative bacilli were the most frequent pathogen in patients without obvious pneumonia shadow.
