Summary:Screw lock CAPD system (Terumo) was evaluated in clinical use. In the experimental model the tip of connector of the transfer tube was stained with 103 of bacteria, however no bacterial growth was found in the culture of stained site after flushing of 90ml of dialysate or covering the tip by concomitant cup. 93% of expert medical staff assessed that screw lock system was easier to manipulate than standard spike system and preventing effect for bacterial contamination was almost equal to UV systems. The duration that 16 patients could master the technique for exchange of CAPD bags was 3.2±1.1 days. Another 5 patients who seemed to be difficult to use other CAPD systems could also master screw lock system in the duration of 9.2±4.3 days. Incidence of peritonitis was 1/39.7 patients·month in this system and was lower than in other system. In conclusion screw lock system offers a safe and easy method for exchange of dialysate bags of CAPD.
