Summary: | A new polysulfone membrane dialyzer which was newly developed by Toray Industries, Inc. was clinically employed in 8 hemodialysis patients. Reduction rates of urea and β2-MG were 69.6±10.5%, 50.9±10.7%, respectively. Furthermore, we evaluated mass transfer coefficient (Ko) as an elimination effectiveness. Urea and β2-MG Ko which was calculated from the reduction rate were 0.0189±0.0058cm/min, 0.00217±0.00092cm/min, respectively. TMP was stable during hemodialysis. Urea Ko which was calculated from urea clearance was evaluated at 1 hr and 3 hrs of dialysis and it changed from 0.0462±0.0045cm/min into 0.0409±0.0063cm/min, respectively (p<0.005). As parameters of biocompatibility, behavior of WBC, C3a and hydroxy radical production of granulocytes were investigated. Although, following 15min of dialysis treatment, significant decrement of WBC was observed (70.5% of pre-dialysis value, p<0.0005), the degree of leukocytopenia was slight and it smoothly recovered. At 15min and 60min of hemodialysis, plasma C3a level was slightly elevated. The hydroxy radical production of granulocytes stimulated by FS-105 was lower than that of cellulosic membrane. On the basis of these results, FS-105 was concluded to be suitable for maintenance hemodialysis treatment. |
