Conductometric titration of metal-Cupferron chelate with EDTA in nonaqueous media

A ligand substitution reaction between EDTA and the metal-Cupfferon chelates and its analyical application were investigated in N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and hexamethylphosphoric triamide (HMPA). The metal-Cupferron chelates used were those of aluminium(III), cobalt(II), copper(II), iron(III), ni...

Summary:A ligand substitution reaction between EDTA and the metal-Cupfferon chelates and its analyical application were investigated in N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and hexamethylphosphoric triamide (HMPA). The metal-Cupferron chelates used were those of aluminium(III), cobalt(II), copper(II), iron(III), nickel(II), titanium(IV) and zirconium(IV). The molar ratios of 2 : 1 and 1 : 1 were obtained by conductometric titration of metal-Cupferron chelates with EDTA. Differential titration of the mixed metal-Cupferron chelates could be carried out by utilizing the difference in their reactivities. Less than 5% of water, inorganic acids and organic solvents such as chloroform, carbon tetrachloride and MIBK did not influence the inflection points in the conductometric titration curves. The lowest limit of determination was 3×10-3 mol/dm3.
