Summary:Purpose : To standardize the various complete dentures so that they adjust to similarity, allowing for three-dimensional analysis and classification.Materials and Methods : Ten pairs of well-functioning complete dentures were selected, duplicated, and converted into 3D digital data using a 3D scanner and 3D editing software. Subsequently, a reference template data with reference points was created. Reference points of the scan data were superimposed on the template data using a homologous modeling software. All homologous models were averaged to produce the three standard shapes of the maxilla, mandible, and maxillomandibular dentures. Next, the main factors influencing morphology were examined using principal component analysis.Results : Nine principal components were extracted for each maxillary, mandibular, and maxillomandibular denture. The major factors affecting denture morphology were estimated to be the maxillomandibular relationship and occlusal height. Parameters such as the anteroposterior relationship of the anterior teeth to the residual alveolar ridge, depth of the buccal vestibule at the molar regions, height of the palate, depth of the lingual floor margin, width of the buccal shelf, occlusal height, and slope of the interalveolar crest line may also potentially impact the standard morphology of complete dentures determined using homologous models.Conclusions : The standard denture base morphology of the maxillary, mandibular, and maxillomandibular dentures can be established using homologous models and analyzed using principal component analysis.
