Summary:Fosfomycin (FOM) was intravenously administered to 11 cases with various infections in the field of internal medicine, and the following results were obtained. 1) FOM showed relatively strong antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 2) Out of 11 cases, an excellent or a good result was obtained in 7, the efficacy rate being 63.6%. 3) With regards to side effects, 1 had positive urine protein, and 2 had increases of GOT and GPT. Apnea was seen in 1 case. This tendency seemd to be due to the excessive speed of i. v. injection. 4) FOM seems to be a unique antibiotic by virtue of having strong antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas spp.; though the care for administration method, especially, the speed of i. v. injection and the reconstituting amount will be necessary.
