Summary:An Aeolian tone, which occurs from the square cylinders with rounded corners, widely changes its frequency and sound pressure level according with the geometry of their cross sections. The purpose of the present research is to clarify the causal relationship with the cross section and the Aeolian tone, and to determine the cause of its frequency and sound pressure level. The results show that the frequency is affected by the size of the wake. In addition, the flow pattern around the cylinder is divided into two types according to whether the separated airflow reattaches on the body or not. The sound pressure level becomes minimal in the intermediate case of these two flow types, because the vortex shedding in this case is more unsteady and disorganized in space-wise than other cases.
