Summary: | Estimates of world agricultural potentialities can be approached from several points of view. The problem is so complex that it must be broken down into smaller units, by countries and groups of countries, and into smaller functional pieces. Yet we know that what happens in any one country depends on the questions of war or peace and of stagnation or prosperity in other countries. We can try to limit our inquiry to the basic physical and biological potentialities for abundance. What kinds of soil do we have, what will they produce, by what means, and how much? The results of such inquiries suggest that we still have great unused soil resources. |
