Summary:The authors examined hepatic function every week for 6 months on all cases who were operated in Surg. Dept. of Sendai National Hospital from April to December, 1970 and performed liver biopsy in cases who showed disturbance of liver function after surgery, and studied correlation between hepatic function and biopsy findings. The following results were obtained: 1) serum hepatitis and suspected serum hepatitis were found in 20 cases (18.5%) out of 108 received blood transfusion and jaundice developed in 5 cases of them. AA case (2.7%) out of 37 cases operated without blood transfusion was suspected to have serum hepatitis. 2) cases accompanied with jaundice decreased in 1970 than 1909, but suspected cases increased. 3) clinical diagnosis in cases with hepatic disturbance were confirmed by hepatic biopsy, and we noticed histological findings of hepatitis in most cases suspected as hepatitis. 4) suspected hepatitis, particularly with jaundice, should be treated as . hepatitis. 5) serum hepatitis should be diagnosed by means of hepatic function and biopsy, findings together.
