Summary:Seveteen patients enrolled at National Leprosarium, Oshima Seisho-en in Japan had to be sent to other hospitals during 3 years from April 1978 to March 1980, because the patients could not received pertinent treatment in the leprosarium. Referring to the age of the 17 cases as shown on Table 2, 3 cases were in their fourties, 2 cases were in their fifties, 8 cases were in their sixties and 4 cases were in their seventies. Sixteen out of the 17 cases were admitted into Leprosy Research Laboratory, Kyoto University School of Medicine (9 out of the 16 cases were transferred from Leprosy Research Laboratory to respective Department of Kyoto University Hospital) and 1 out of the 17 cases was admitted into a private hospital at Uji-city in Kyoto as shown on Table 1. The total number of times of admission of the patients to other hospitals was 46. In the items of the admission frequency to other hospitals, the patients were admitted 36 times to Leprosy Research Laboratory, Kyoto University School of Medicine, 6 times to Department of Surgery of Kyoto University Hospital, once to Department of Gynecology of Kyoto University Hospital, 3 times to Department of Urology of Kyoto University Hospital and once to Department of Internal medicine of a private hospital as shown on Table 3. In the clinical and histopathological classification of leprosy of the 17 cases as shown on Table 5, 13 cases were lepromatous and 4 cases were tuberculoid. The aftereffects of leprosy of the 17 cases were shown on Table. 6. The respective diagnosis, treatment and result of the 17 cases in the entrusted hospitals were shown on Table. 4. Six out of the 17 cases were diagnoses as malignant tumor. Five out of the 6 cases diagnosed as malignant tumor were lepromatous and 1 case was tuberculoid as shown on Table. 5. In the prognosis of the 17 cases, only 1 case was died after the discharge from the hospital to Oshima Seisho-en, 5 cases had complete cure, 10 cases had improvement and 1 case was discharged due to the end of clinical examination as shown on Table. 4.
