Summary:A patient with lymphangioma circumscriptum involving the dorsum of toes of both feet was examined by lymphography. The results were as follows. (1) Immediately after lymphography, abnormally dilated lymphatics with increased number were noted in the intra-pelvic region. (2) In 24 hours after lymphography, it was observed that contrast medium was kept remaining in both f emoral collecting lymphatics. (3) Iliac and lumber lymph nodes were smaller in size than usual. The results (1) and (2) are the finding to suggest lymph reflux from the central lymphatics to the periphery, and the result (3) is thought to be causative of the backflow. From these findings obtained in our study, it is speculated that embryological dysplasia of the lumbar lymph trunks might be playing a role in lymph reflux, resulting into development of such lymphangioma circumscriptum as seen in our case.
