Summary: | In a low speed two-stroke cycle diesel engine, one of the most important issues in recent years has been improvement of the load-carrying capacity of the crosshead-pin bearing in the context of increasing engine power. In the present study, load limit tests and fatigue limit tests using a dynamic load bearing apparatus were carried out to clarify the lubrication characteristics of a crosshead-pin bearing to which an externally pressurized lubrication system had been applied. The load-carrying capacity was significantly higher when using the externally pressurized bearing rather than the conventional bearing. An increase in the lubricating oil supply pressure was effective in increasing the oil film thickness on the sliding surface, causing the load-carrying capacity to improve. It was important to optimize both the size and the arrangement of the oil pockets on the bearing surface in order to improve the load-carrying capacity. |
