Summary:The use of balloon catheters in diagnostic and therapeutic angiography is now widely accepted. More sophisticated system, however, must be developed to use the balloon catheter safely. Newly developed system has the following advantages; Power supply can detect the presence of short-circuiting or broken wire of lead-in wires in the catheter, and release a balloon even the presence of them. Solidifying liquid which is a mixture of fibrinogen and an iodinated contrast medium is free from the disadvantages of 2-hydroxethylmethacrylate such as a contraction in volume and evolution of heat during polymerization. The double-lumen catheter with a releasable balloon can be used to permit a complete intravascular cast formation with isobutyl-2-cyanoacrylate.
