Summary:75 subjects in whom Bicer-val Monostrut artificial valves of the tilting disc were employed underwent aortic valve replacement during the period from December, 1981 to September, 1987. Mean follow up 2.7 years (1 month to 5.9 years) after surgery, clinical results and the valve function of the artificial valves were assessed. The average age of the subjects at the time of operation was 52.1±11.2 Although the operative mortality was 2.7% (2 patients), there was no further mortality during the period of our observation (0%). There was also no occurrence of thromboembolism nor valve dysfunction. Bicer-val prosthesis is deemed to be sufficiently wide for effective valve function. On the basis of the above results, particularly considering its low resistance, the Bicer-val prosthesis can be said to be available in the aortic position.
