Summary:From 1966 to 1988, radiological study of gastrointestinal tracts in patients with SMON was performed as compared with 3 divided groups. From esophagns to colon, routine radiological examination by oral barium method was performed. In gastrointestinal tracts in patients with SMON, specific and organic changes were not recognized. But functionally gastric emptying time and cecum transit time were delayed remarkably in group A from 1966 to 1971. This group was considered to be suffering from chinoform effect most severely, and other groups were recovering healthy condition. And unusual findings of small intestine was recognized in all groups in the range of about 50 percent, no significant differences among 3 groups. But this findings in severe grade of SMON patients were more significant than mild grade. These results suggest that direct or indirect effect of chinoform is demonstrated most severely in group A and most mildly in group C
