A small menbrane oxygenator (MENOX EL2000) was clinically evaluated in terms of gas exchange perfomance in five neonates undergoing 6 courses of ECMO. In the 5 courses of ECMO, oxgen and carbon dioxide transfer performance were evaluated by O2 transfer rate (VO2), effective lung blood flow ratio (Qp/Qt), CO2 transfer rate (VCO2), and CO2 gradient; CO2 tension ratio (ΔCO2/PoutCO2). These indices showed that MENOX EL2000 had an excellent gas exchange performance.
