Summary:We used cefmenoxime (CMX, SCE-1365) for the patients with acute peritonitis to examine its clinical efficacy. Acute peritonitis of 10 cases were caused by ruptured appendix or by perforation of a viscus from duodenal ulcer or by leakage from suture of a viscus. Clinical efficacy of cefmenoxime was evaluated with decrease in purulent discharge, falls of temperature and/or normalization of leucocytosis. It was excellent in 3 cases, good in 6 and fair in 1. Clinical improvement was corre lated well with disappearence of causative bacilli in the discharge. Good transfer of cefmenoxime into ascites from i.v. infusion was ascertained. No side effect was noticed.
