Summary:Basic and clinical studies were performed, and the following results were obtained. S-1108, a new oral cephem antibiotic, was evaluated for its tissue concentration in female genital organs after administration of 100 and 200 mg doses (n=10). The peak serum levels in uterine artery and cubital vein blood were 0.34μg/ml at 3 hours after the 100 mg dose, while genital tissue levels were 0.06-0.18μg/g. After administration of 200mg, serum levels and genital tissue levels were 0.24-0.44μg/ml and 0.12-0.17μg/g respectively at 4 hours. In clinical studies, S-1108 was administered to 9 patients (endometritis: 2, bartholinitis: 1, abscess of bartholin: 1, mastitis: 4, abscess of genitals: 1). The daily dose was 100mg three times a day. The total clinical efficacy rate was 8/9, and the bacteriological effect showed all organisms isolated (5 strains) eradicated after treatment. No serious adverse effects were observed in any of the cases.
