Summary:The introduction of Frenchballet de courto Sweden in the 1630s marked an important step in the development of Swedish court theatre. Court ballet reached its height soon thereafter, during Queen Christina’s brief, but eventful reign (1644–54). This theatre form in Sweden has received increasing attention, but its educational character has until now been overlooked.¹ In this chapter I shall investigate this particular aspect of court ballet in Sweden.
