Summary: | Three cases (65, 58 and 51 years of age) of dermatomyositis with internal malignancy, two cases with lung cancer and one with colonic cancer, were reported. In each of 3 cases malignancy preceded, followed, and occurred with dermatomyositis respectively. Two cases with lung cancer showed marked swelling of the upperextremiteis, neck and chest wall and were accompanied by very high serum creatine phosphokinase levels. Creatine phosphokinase levels were normalized by corticosteroid but muscle pain and weakness (and swelling in two cases) become progressively worse against corticosteroid therapy in all of three cases. During the last 7 years we have experienced 12 cases of dermatomyositis of which 5 cases were over 50 years of age and only 3 cases have been linked with internal malignancy. |
