Summary:Much literature on the critical flutter velocity in tube arrays has been reported hitherto. Nowadays, the tendency of the study seems to be an adjustment of these experimental results. However, the effects of tube arrangements and the ratio of pitch to diameter on the critical velocity are not yet clear. Accordingly, in this study, the critical velocity of tube arrays in various kinds of tube arrangement and the ratio of pitch to tube diameter have been measured experimentally by wind tunnel tests and water tunnel tests. Consequently, critical velocity maps which are very important for design of heat-exchanger have been stated in this paper, and involve the effects of tube arrangements.
