Summary:The wheel fiat on the wheel traed of railway vehicle has influence on the property of the bogie and car. It causes not noly noise and vibration, but sometimes causes fatigue of the parts of car. To clarify the formation mechanism of wheel flat, the wheel slipping experiment has been done by using a specially designed car with measurement bogie on the actual truck. During the experiment, a previous phenomenon which has notable relation with the generation wheel slipping was observed. The phenomenon generated was the torsional vibration of the axle just before the wheel slipping while braking and the wheel-readhesion during the brake release. In this paper, details of the special designed car are explained and the characteristics of pre-slipping phenomenon are reported.
