Microscopic Observation of Gas-Solid Two-Phase Flow with Adhesive Fine Particles

Adhesive fine powder of micron-order diameter affects flow properties of gassolid two-phase flow. However, only a few fundamental research studies have been performed. In this study, flow of a mixture of FCC (dp=70μm, ρp=1400kg/m3) and aluminum hydroxide (dp=7 μm, ρp=2400kg/m3) in a two-dimensional...

Summary:Adhesive fine powder of micron-order diameter affects flow properties of gassolid two-phase flow. However, only a few fundamental research studies have been performed. In this study, flow of a mixture of FCC (dp=70μm, ρp=1400kg/m3) and aluminum hydroxide (dp=7 μm, ρp=2400kg/m3) in a two-dimensional bed (5×60×400 mm) is observed with a long-distance focus microscope. It is found that individual FCC particles are coated with aluminum hydroxide. Large flocculated powder of FCC produced by medium adhesion force of aluminum hydroxide is observed. Size and number of flocculated powder are a function of gas velocity and concentration of fine particles.
