Summary:Water soluble polysaccharide (Raw product) was prepared from the aqueous extract of Iraq dates. The extraction was carried out under such conditions as to eliminate the contamination of monosaccharides. Raw product was extracted by 50% aqueous pyridine. The extract (P-50) was absorbed on DEAE-cellulose column for the purpose of purification and fractionated into four fractions (F-1, F-2, F-3', F-4) by successive elution with 0.2M acetate buffer (pH 5), 0.1M NaHCO3, 0.5M NaHCO3 and 0.5N NaOH. These four fractions were isolated as electrophoretically single compounds. Hydrolysis of these fractions (F-1, F-2, F-3') gave three monosaccharides, xylose, arabinose and galactose with proportions of 1:3:4. F-4 gave glucose, xylose, arabinose and galactose with proportions of 1:1:2:3. The molecular weight per one terminal group of each fraction (F-1, F-2, F-3', F-4) was 1200_??_1600, 4400_??_4800, 5800_??_6100 and 2800_??_3100, respectively.
