Simultaneous determination of iodine and iodide by potentiometric titration Potentiometric titration with potassium iodate. I

A two step curve was obtained in potentiometric titration of potassium iodide by standard potassium iodate solution in 4 N hydrochloric acid. The two, first and second, steps in the titration curve corresponded, respectively, to the reactions I--e→I0 and I0-e→I+, and 0.140.014 M potassium iodide cou...

Summary:A two step curve was obtained in potentiometric titration of potassium iodide by standard potassium iodate solution in 4 N hydrochloric acid. The two, first and second, steps in the titration curve corresponded, respectively, to the reactions I--e→I0 and I0-e→I+, and 0.140.014 M potassium iodide could be determined accurately. Iodine and potassium iodide in their mixture could be successively determined by one titration. The error was 0.2% and 0.4% for 25 mg of iodine and 90 mg of potassium iodide, respectively.
