Summary:Sulfamethopyrazine is a long-acting sulfa drug which has been synthesized in the Farmitalia Research Laboratory. Three. healthy individuals and 4 in-patients received 2 g of sulfamethopyrazine in a single dose, and blood levels and urinary concentration were subsequently determined using thin layer cup method. 1. Plasma concentration reaches at a maximum level 4 hours after drug administration and afterwards it falls progressively. 2. Plasma half life was more than 72 hours in the 3 cases among 4 in-patients tested. Thirty-two female patients suffering from acute cystitis were treated with sulfamethopyrazine administered orally in a single 2 g dose. The therapeutic results were very satisfactory, as 71. 9% of the cases treated was cured.
