Summary:We experienced unusual acoustic vibration in the operation of a tubular heat exchanger, or, a gas heater. This phenomenon is not one dimensional acoustic vibration in the direction perpendicular to the gas flow and tube axis. Experiment shows the vibration is in the direction of the gas flow. Therefore, it is very difficult to suppress by a conven.tional method after the onset of the vibration. So we have to confirm acoustic vibration characteristics. We performed scale model tests of a one-stage gas heater and checked some countermeasure methods which are effective.
