Heat Transfer Correlations of Natural Convection with Density Inversion in a Vertical Enclosure

Natural convection of water with density inversion is discussed numerically. The region for calculation is a rectangular region, and its lower temperature wall is kept at 0°C. The higher wall temperature is between l°C and 12°C. The length of a vertical wall is less than 10 cm. The ratio of the hori...

Summary:Natural convection of water with density inversion is discussed numerically. The region for calculation is a rectangular region, and its lower temperature wall is kept at 0°C. The higher wall temperature is between l°C and 12°C. The length of a vertical wall is less than 10 cm. The ratio of the horizontal length to the vertical wall length is between 0.2 and 1.5. The average Nusselt number of a vertical wall is characterized by a density function, a Galilei number and an equivalent aspect ratio. Using these parameters appropriately, simple correlations among average heat transfer rate and other conditions are obtained.
