Summary:Medication counseling was started at our clinic for outpatients with bronchial asthma. A survey was performed on two groups consisting of those who did or did not receive medication counseling, for comparison purposes. Although no significant difference was observed in the medication status between the two groups, the patient compliance differed significantly between them. This survey was repeated 1 month later, and a significantly better medications status was observed in the group with medication counseling. However, no significant difference was observed regarding anxiety against steroids and theophyline preparations either in the first or second surveys. It was impossible to reduce the degree of anxiety by medication counseling, however, a slight improvement in patient compliance was observed. As a result, such medical counseling was nevertheless considered necessary in order to prevent decreased compliance due to anxiety.
