Lumbar Intraspinal Extradural Ganglion: A Case Report

We report a case of lumbar intraspinal extradural ganglion. A 82-year-old female suffered from bilateral leg pain. Preoperative diagnosis was an intraspinal cyst at the left L4-5 facet joint level by MRI, which we diagnosed as synovial cyst. L4-5 partial laminectomy and cyst resection were performed...

Summary:We report a case of lumbar intraspinal extradural ganglion. A 82-year-old female suffered from bilateral leg pain. Preoperative diagnosis was an intraspinal cyst at the left L4-5 facet joint level by MRI, which we diagnosed as synovial cyst. L4-5 partial laminectomy and cyst resection were performed. The cyst was located behind the dural tube and contained viscous fluid. It was adherent to the dura mater and could not be separated. The cyst was diagnosed as intraspinal extradural ganglion due to the contents of the cyst and histological examination indicating presence of mucous degeneration and absence of lining cell.
