Summary:We present a case of Pierre Robin syndrome with microcephaly and the result of our statistical approach to 130 cases of this malformation reported in Japan. Results obtained as follows: 1) Pierre Robin syndrome found to be caused frequently by hereditary factors. 2) Many patients had not only the troubles of their mandible but also underdevelopment of their bodies at birth. 3) The symptoms were mainly difficulties in sucking and breathing. Therefore the patients tend to suffer from malnutrition. 4) Most of those babies had other additional malformation, especially cleft palate were observed in 54% of the cases. 5) Many of them died within 6 months after birth and the main causes of death were respiratory failure and pulmonary infections.
