Summary: | Fourteen samples belonging to the wood coffin recovered from the Nabataean burial (L8; see Chapter 13) were processed for taxonomic identification (Table 17.1). Only 13 of the samples could demonstrate sufficient anatomical features for identification at the most specific systematic level. Overall, three separate species were identified for this assemblage. Two samples were identified as Cedrus libani, primarily though the consistency of the rays and the presence of traumatic resin canals, which are characteristic of the species in question (Fig. 17.1).
