The Significance of Neutrophil Lymphocyte Rate for Unresectable or Recurrent Colorectal Cancer with Chemotherapy

Summary:We analyzed the relationship between neutrophil lymphocyte rate(NLR) classified by serum neutrophil level and lymphocyte level and clinicopathological features in 41 patients with unresectable or recurrent colorectal cancer with chemotherapy. The NLR values were distributed between 0.45 and 10.5 (average 3.19±2.19). There was a significant positive correlation between NLR and WBC (r=0.634, p<0.0001), CRP (r=0.526, p=0.0004) and albumin (r=-0.425, p=0.0056). Next, all patients were divided into two groups according to the values of NLR based on the receiver operator characteristic curve. We found that NLR showed a significant correlation with overall survival time (median survival time, 765 days (NLR <2.77) and 535 days (NLR ≥2.77), p=0.0002). NLR could be a prognostic factor and a very useful objective screening tool for the host immune response in unresectable or recurrent colorectal cancer patients during chemotherapy.
