Summary:Along the central North-Coast of Santa Catarina State several beaches present erosion processes. One good example is the Navegantes beach that in the last decade suffered with aggravated beach erosion problems. Facing this reality, this work aimed to understand the governing processes behind the erosional problem by studying the local morphology and sedimentary characteristics, as well as to propose subsidies to an appropriate beach nourishment practice. The analysis of the shoreline variation was negative for the Gravatá beach with an average of 1.5 m/yr in an extension of two kilometers. The sediment of the beach was characterized as fine sand (0.16 mm). The necessary volume for the beach nourishment was calculated for a beach profile with a height of 8 meters between the berm (+2m) and the depth of closure (-6m), and a width estimate the beach after the beach nourishment of 15, 50, 75 and 100 meters. Overfill of 1.2 was used. The necessary volume of sediment for a beach nourishment in the Navegantes beach was calculated in 290,000 m³, 960,000 m³, 1,450,000 m³ and 1,900,000m³ respectively.
