Summary:Aluminum metal matrix composites (AMMCs) reinforced with ceramic particles have different and many uses in multi industrial applications due to their excellent characteristics. The present work is aimed at studying the preparation of AMMC reinforced with particles of cement kiln dust (CKD). A base alloy of (Al+2%Mg) had been prepared by using powder metallurgy technique with a determined suitable compacting pressure of 350MPa and sintering for 2 hours at 590°C in inert gas furnace. Samples with (0,2,4,6,8,10,12,14 and 16wt%) of CKD particles were prepared. Mechanical and physical characterization included:microhardness, thermal conductivity, wear test, frictional coefficient, porosity test, chemical composition, microstructure, and X-ray diffraction analysis. The results showed an improvement of (74%) in microhardness by reinforcing with 16wt% of CKD. Thermal conductivity, wear rate, and frictional coefficientdecreased by (59%), (78%) and (74%) respectively.
