Summary:MPICH is a freeware for implementing message passing interface (a utility library for parallel computing). It has been widely used as a major technique in parallel computing on a cluster system. In this paper, we focus on the MPICH-based parallel application for processing meteorological data. After building up a small-scale and MPICH-installed PC cluster, we parallelize the algorithm for the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) meteorological model. Experimental results using the parallel model are compared with the results using the Galaxy V mainframe. We find that the parallel cluster can be reasonably considered as the parallel facility for small-scale HPC applications.
