Summary:There are various reasons for the distribution switchgear failures. Some failures are caused by natural factors, some are caused by man-made causes, and others are caused by cumulative effects during long term operation. It is of great practical significance to confirm the main causes and find out the effective methods to prevent switchgear accidents. Therefore, the statistical analysis about the causes of failure in switchgear is showed in this paper. According to statistics, the aging of organic electrical insulating materials is the main cause of switchgear accidents. Whereby, a series of accelerated aging tests have been carried out to study the insulation faults, and then proposed a preventive measure.
