Summary:What are the characteristics to make something appear as asocial entity? Is sociality limited to human beings? The following article will deal with the borders of sociality and the characterizations for animating a physical object (here: android robot) to a living being. The transition is attributed during interactive encounters. We will introduce implications of an ethnomethodological analysis to show characteristics of transitions in social attribution towards an android robot, which is treated and perceived gradually shifting from an object to a social entity. These characteristics should a) fill the gap in current anthropological and sociological research, dealing with the limits and characteristics of social entities, and b) contribute to the discussion of specifics in human-android interaction compared to human-human interaction.
