Summary:Gas Insulated Substations (GIS) are important equipment to power industry, mainly because of its compactness and robustness. This kind of substation uses SF 6 (sulfur hexafluoride) gas as dielectric due to its feature, but on the other hand, SF 6 is the most powerful greenhouse gas. Based on the importance of this gas to the power systems and its environmental damages, this research proposes a monitoring system to check gas quality and gas leakages in a GIS. The aim was to develop a low cost system to collect status data and record in a historical database. The latest results expose the development and installation of the acquisition e monitoring system in three bays of a GIS. With the implementation of the system is expected to improve the gas quality management and also improvements on gas leakage detection and location.
