Summary:This paper investigates the issue of power allocation when coupling scalable video coding (SVC) with superposition coding (SPC) in a fundamental three-node relay network. End-to-end distortion (EED) formulations for the SVC-SPC architecture are derived for optimization subject to power allocation parameters at the source and relay nodes. Behavior of the EED optimizers and their sensitivity to non-optimal power allocation configurations are further analyzed under a number of network channel scenarios. It is found that accurate configuration of power allocation tailored for specific channel conditions is crucial for optimal EED performance at the end-user.
