Summary:In this paper we optimize the geometry of some 2D photonic crystal (PC) waveguides so as to increase their single-mode fractional bandwidth for TM polarization. Using PWE method, the optimization algorithm searches in the space of some predefined variables to find the local maxima as well as the global maximum. Here, a PC waveguide geometry is proposed which has a single-mode bandwidth of 41% for TM polarization. This value of single-mode bandwidth is about 9% greater than the commonly used structures.
