Summary:The paper deals with a comparison of several modifications of the proportional-integrative controllers for plants approximated by the integral-plus-dead-time (IPDT) models. It is shown that by including a derivative, or a second-order derivative action combined with higher order binomial filters it is possible to significantly reduce the measurement noise impact and, at the same time, to speed up the transients. Thereby, the filter design and the overall controller tuning derived by the multiple real dominant pole method remain simple enough to be attractive for the industrial practice.
