Comparative Study of Just-Noticeable Color Differences Using Reflective and Self-Luminous Color Stimuli

In this study, visual color-difference assessments were conducted using both reflective colors which are printed with ink-jet printer and self-luminous colors displayed on a CRT monitor. The psychophysical method of adjustment and constant stimuli were used in the visual assessments. The results wer...

Summary:In this study, visual color-difference assessments were conducted using both reflective colors which are printed with ink-jet printer and self-luminous colors displayed on a CRT monitor. The psychophysical method of adjustment and constant stimuli were used in the visual assessments. The results were used to reveal human color vision characteristics via chromaticity ellipses in the a * -b * plane. In comparison of the visual color differences of CRT color pairs and the reflective pairs, the experimental data could provide references for the improvement of uniform color space and color-difference formula.
