Summary:A surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-based optical fiber biosensor is analyzed numerically. For the proposed model with four-layer mode (fiber core/dielectric/metal/binding medium), the effect of the thickness of metal layer and dielectric on the spectrum of the transmitted power and wavelength has been studied. For the new fiber designed for biosensing purpose, the electric and magnetic fields distribution of proper components are simulated. The numerical results show the surface plasmon phenomenon is appeared in vicinity of the gold thin film and binding medium.
