Summary: | Mobility management in wireless environment is important to support real-time services with increasing usage of wireless internet. The packets based on Internet Protocol (IP) are classified by edge router depending on the traffic conditioning agreement (TCA) in the differentiated services (DiffServ) domain. The core routers then forward the packets differently depending on the PHB (Per Hop-Behavior). Generally, the Quality of Service (QoS) is not guaranteed during handover because the packets are buffered regardless of the PHB during handover over the DiffServ domain. In order to fix this problem, we propose a new packet buffering scheme where the packets are according to buffered by a predefined priority in both the newly attached access router and access point during handover. The loss probability of each type of PHB packet with the proposed scheme is analytically modeled, and its performance is validated by computer simulation. The simulation reveals that QoS is supported with the proposed scheme while the packet loss rate is significantly reduced compared to the existing scheme. |
