Summary: | For maximizing the benefit of today's ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) systems improved collection planning is essential. A two-step approach for resource-optimal sensor scheduling has been developed in close cooperation with subject matter experts from the military ISR domain. It consists of a pre-selection step where, for each target, the set of available assets being principally suited is determined. In the second step, an automatic planning component tries to derive concrete proposals which assets have to be finally assigned to which targets and for the dedicated routes individual assets have to follow in order to serve these targets. The preselection step is realized as interactive step and based on the concept of a chain of filters in which individual filters work independently from each other on the set of available assets. The automatic planning component is based on a combinatorial optimization problem being solved using a dedicated metaheuristic approach. The two-step approach for resource-optimal sensor scheduling constitutes the essential basis of a computeraided assistance system for ISR management personal which has been implemented as a demonstrator. Coming from a military context, the described concepts and solutions also apply to civil applications with similar requirements. |
