Summary:This paper explores the comparison of four dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems using two different modulation schemes. Dual Polarization Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (DP-QPSK) and Dual Polarization 16-State Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (DP-QAM16) along with mid-span optical phase conjugation (OPC) were implemented in a multiple channel transmission system using DWDM employing the entire C-band. For both systems, a total of 85 channels were implemented with 50 GHz channel spacing and laser linewidth of 100kHz. A bit rate of 112 Gb/s was transmitted via each channel. The simulation considered a SMF-28 channel aided with DCF and EDFA. Both bit rate-distance product and spectral efficiency-distance product were compared to show the superiority of performance for the DP-QAM16 based DWDM system. Later, OPC was performed in the middle of the transmission to successfully extend the transmission distance.
